First – I don’t do enough python stuff to know all the tooling so every time I have to set up python environments on a new system I spend hours trying to get it working. I think the issue this time was creating a venv before debian’s ‘python-full’ package was installed.
Second – rabbit trails: I was going to write up some system dynamic simulation stuff and then started trying to get tikz diagrams working in a jupyter notebook… why? I guess I have been meaning to learn to make good diagrams… still a long distraction from the original thing though. And installing the packages to get tikz working in jupyter is a third level of abstraction and busywork away from the original project…
I’m not saying I regret the distractions, it’s just a pattern I’ve noticed and want to pay attention too.
