This trail of interest series is my experiment to document what catches my interest or inspires me, daily or near-daily.
The drawing above is my “pre-instruction” self portrait, part of the first exercise in the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. It’s a better drawing than I expected it to be actually. I haven’t had an art class since elementary age I think.
What surprised me about the pre-instruction drawings is the huge difference drawing eyes on a face makes. Even if they’re terrible it makes the drawing much more human. The other pre-instruction portrait was much worse and it and drawing the eyes on it gave me a “what is this monster I made” feeling for a second.
